Waffles is a beautiful 6 year old, about 70ish lb, male Golden Retriever who is an owner surrender to a shelter, as a result of having seizures for the past year that have gone untreated. His seizures started approx a year ago with no known injury or incident. They have been happening randomly, trigger unknown, every couple weeks to month. He has been to the GRRAND vet and they started him on seizure preventative and have emergency meds just in case he has a seizure. We are withholding vaccines till we find source of temp as a precaution. He is in a temporary foster home, but GRRAND is looking for a foster or adopter in the LVL area and prefers someone who is home most of the time to monitor for seizure activity while we adjust his meds.
His temp foster says: “Waffles is a beautiful pure golden, slender, has a beautiful coat, is good natured, is very friendly, and loves to be brushed. This guy seeks attention… He wants to be next to you all the time and is an attention HOG! He likes to sleep on the bed, couch or in your lap. Waffles knows multiple commands (comes when called) and he’s also a ball boy, retrieves and drops at your feet and responds to drop it. He is beautiful but more importantly he’s a sweet soul and joy to be around.
He’s good with my 3 dogs and my cat and eats next to my dogs so no food or toy aggression.Â
Waffles is house-trained, and it is unclear about the crate, as I haven’t used it. We tried when he first arrived and he cried but that was in the first hour so I let him out 🙂
He does need leash training as he is very strong, and I can put the leash on but he pulls erratically. We doubt he’s ever used one because he grew up on a farm without fencing. He was curious about my fence and closely inspected it, but he did not make an effort to breach it though. We think he is happy to have a safe and secure space to hang out in now!”
Waffles new family will need to know he is very strong and not good on leash, so they will need to be prepared to handle a strong dog on leash.
