GRRAND Tails Rest of the Story November 2023

Make a Difference with GRRAND's Phone Duty Team

Our Phone Duty Team is looking for a volunteer to check GRRAND’s hotline voice mailbox at regular intervals 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Sundays (the quietest day of the week!). This volunteer could instead cover Fridays, if preferred.

“It is an easy job I could do from anywhere,” said volunteer Pam Sherman.

Duties would include responding to or forwarding messages to an appropriate GRRAND volunteer to answer questions from the public and helping callers better understand GRRAND’s policies and operations.

This role may be a great fit for you if you are enthusiastic, have good communication skills, and have home or cell phone service. This is a flexible role, and there will be plenty of GRRAND experts available to help you along the way!

I’ve been able to help on the phone line to reunite a lost dog with its owner,” said Phone Duty Coordinator Anne Lyons. “My sweetest story is about an older golden mix who had been rescued in east Kentucky. He’d been living outdoors on a chain and the owner had been persuaded to give him up, but now the rescuers had no place to put him! They were boarding him and heard about GRRAND, and called us on the phone to ask if we could take him. All I had to do was contact GRRAND’s intake coordinator to get the ball rolling.

“As soon as there was room in the kennel, the rescuers transported him to Louisville. He soon went to a foster home and was later adopted by a couple who applied specifically to adopt him. So many people who helped this fella find his wonderful, forever home. I did stay in touch with the caller, giving her updates. She was so excited when I told her he was officially adopted! These kind of stories make our job so rewarding.”

Help Find Forever Homes with GRRAND's Application Processing Team

Our Application Processing Team needs your help – especially in the Cincinnati and Louisville areas!

Duties would include making calls to process GRRAND adoption and foster applications, as well as contacting vet offices, personal references, or applicants to verify application information.

These duties can be completed right from the comfort of your own home, and the time requirement is around 30 minutes to an hour per application. We will work with your schedule availability! Training is also provided.

“The best part for me is that I can do my ‘work’ from anywhere,” said Dee, an Application Processing volunteer.

“I really enjoy talking with the references on the various applications I have worked on over the years,” said volunteer Ramona. “It is rewarding to help educate people on the importance of regular vet care, vaccinations, and giving their dog year-round heartworm prevention.”

Interested in volunteering with the team? Visit GRRAND’s volunteer page to learn more or apply today.

“It’s so rewarding to help a family find their next dog and to find a forever family for the dog. Talking with applicants about their desire to find a dog to love and care for is such a wonderful feeling,” said volunteer Marc.
